History
Historic Robin Hood Village

Robin Hood was built in 1934 by Don Beckman, a famous Hollywood set designer. It wasn't until 1938 when Beckman's friends in the film industry came up to Hood Canal to visit him did the resort get its present name. The crew had just finished the movie, "Adventures of Robin Hood" with Errol Flynn. Upon seeing Don's handiwork, and the surrounding forest, his old pals said, "If we had known you'd already done the work, we could have put down our hammers and come up here to film Robin Hood!"

At the turn of the century, the bay and the mouth of Big Bend Creek where the paddle-wheeler barge is moored, was a large logging camp.

Hood Canal was discovered by Capt. George Vancouver in 1792 and named, "Hood's Channel". Over the years the name changed to "Hood Canal" which is a gross misconception since a canal is a narrow, dirty, and artificial stretch of water. "Hood's Channel" is a sparkling blue saltwater sound, a pristine inland sea, which is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Hood Canal is the only true fjord in the Continental US.
